VMIC系列设备最初由通用电气的自动化工业部门开发和制造，然后被工业自动化集团Abaco Systems收购。VMIC系列设备的功能范围包括转换器板（数字到模拟和模拟到数字）、中央处理单元阵列以及一系列模拟和数字输入和输出板。

该单元是VMIVME-2536，是一个数字输入和输出板，设计用于输入和输出端口的光耦，并配备了一系列32通道。输入/输出采用光学耦合设计，还具有内置测试功能，允许自诊断和分析程序运行和评估VMIVME-2536型号的功能。

通过在控制和状态寄存器（CSR）中放置一位，将装置的输入置于测试模式。在测试模式下，放置在板载测试寄存器ar中的数据。
